What about ZipMail compression ratios?
Compression ratios depend on the type of the files you compress. Some files types like for instance .DOC, .XLS, .TXT, .BMP are compressible some others like for instance .AVI, .MP3, .JPG, .GIF are not.
Since ZipMail compresses files using the industry-standard ZIP compression algorithm, ZipMail delivers the same compression ratio as other ZIP compression tools like WinZip, PKZip etc. ZIP files produced by ZipMail can be opened by any other ZIP utility. The transparent ZIP decompression feature of ZipMail can handle attached ZIP files produced by any other ZIP utility.
What are the different options the recipients of my ZIP files have to decompress these files?
ZipMail for Gmail (as well as all of the other versions of ZipMail) includes transparent decompression of ZIP attached files. So if your recipients have ZipMail installed they do not need anything else.
If they don't, other options are:
1)-The Windows XP built-in Zip utility shows ZIP files as folders and the files compressed into ZIP files as standard files than can be opened, copied etc. by using the standard Windows Explorer features. So all Windows XP users can access/decompress ZIP attached files by double-clicking on them.
2)-Since ZipMail compresses files using the ZIP compression algorithm ZIP compression tools like WinZip, PKZip etc. can decompress ZIP files produced by ZipMail.
3)-We also provide a free decompression utility named unZIP that can be downloaded from our web site. UnZip supports the decompression of password-protected encrypted ZIP files including ZIP files encrypted in AES format.
This is the main windows of unZIP:
